YMI Summer Intensive

August 28, 29, 30, 2023

Join the dancers of YMI Dancing, our School's performance company, in their one week dance intensive. Enjoy daily classes in Ballet, Contemporary, and Choreography. Days are spiced up by a workshop run by guest artists in any of the following dance disciplines: African Dance, Creative Movement, Improvisation, Flamenco, Hip Hop, Kathak, Latin, National, Salsa and Street Dance.

For dancers aged 12 and up with a minimum of 4 yrs dance experience.

ABOUT SUMMER LEAPS & SUMMER TURNS TEACHERS:

Pia Bouman

Pia has a teaching career that spans over 46 years. She teaches all levels of RAD and Classical Ballet technique, Creative Movement, as well as Pointe classes, ‘The Core Challenge’, and special exam coaching.

Elysse Chennette

Elysse is an experienced versatile teacher and performer of multiple styles including Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Tap, and Barre Burn (Adult). She was a dancer with Movement Market, a Contemporary dance company for four years.

Throughout her dance education Elysse has completed her Advanced 1 Cecchetti, Advanced 2 RAD, and Advanced 2 National examinations to increase her technical movement expectations, while fostering an empathetic understanding of individual abilities in others. 

She is a graduate of the Teacher Training Program at the National Ballet School, where she achieved her Cecchetti Associate and National Associate with the ISTD in addition to her 3-year Diploma. She also holds a Bachelor of Physical and

Health Education from Queen’s University, with a specialization in exercise for older adults and those with disabilities. She began dancing in her hometown of Stittsville, Ontario and has continued to pursue every creative opportunity. 

Danielle Denichaud

Born on the Traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe, Danielle graduated from the Professional Program of the National Ballet of Canada in 2002, concomitantly training and performing with the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre. After her studies, Danielle spent two years working with Desrosiers Dance Company and three seasons with Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, followed by freelance work with ProArte Danza, Dreamwalker Dance Company and ezdanza. In addition to her contributions to the world of dance, Danielle holds a BA in Child Studies, a Master’s Degree in Social Justice Education, and is currently a PhD Candidate at the prestigious Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where she is looking to develop a teacher’s curriculum in Holistic Health Promotion for application with K-12 populations. Her research emerges from both her own story of illness and recovery,

as well as her last ten years of work as a Registered Yoga Teacher, Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Teacher Trainer of the Aeküus Functional Movement technique, focusing on chronic & auto-immune disease prevention and recovery, joint care for all ages and joyful living throughout the seasons of our lives!

Natalie Fullerton

Natalie Fullerton has been dancing for as long as she can remember.   Her first love and early training was ballet, until she met modern dance in university and saw a new world of possibilities.

After graduating from York with a BFA in dance and having worked with such incredible and respected choreographers including Holly Small, Darcey Callison, Peter Chin, Menaka Thakkar and Erin Dace Trudell, Natalie was once again in search of expansion and growth.  

While living and training in Germany, Natalie was introduced to fire dance and the world of circus and has never looked back...

Most recently she has been performing around Canada with Circus Orange and co-directing her own small dance company "Goodness Gracious"...  

These days you can find her dangling in the air from a set of aerial silks, feeling more at home than ever before...

Kristal Doga

Kristal Doga teaches Ballet, Jazz, Hip-hop, Contemporary, and Acro, Theatre Jazz at Martha Hicks School of Ballet. She occasionally teaches Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-hop, and Acro at the Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance as well. She is the Activity and Wellness Director at UMATTERCARE and teaches dance, yoga, meditation. She is also stretch instructor, and journalling guide.
